Parent Management Training Oregon (PMTO)

PMTO is an envidence based structured intervention program to help parents and cregivers manage the behavior of the children they are responsible for.  It is designed to promote social skills and cooperation and prevent, reduce and reverse the development of moderate to severe conduct problems in children age 4 - 12.

5 core components:

Encouragement: Parents encourage their children to demonstrate positive behaviors.

Limit Setting: Parents remain consistent in their delivery of effective consequences in order to promote pro-social behavior.

Problem Solving: The family system works together in setting goals, brainstorming, evaluating solutions and carrying out plans.

Monitoring: Parents track children's whereabouts and ensure adult supervision for activities.

Positive involvement: Parents show love and concern for their children by providing positive attention and participating in activities with children.

Family Outreach Center is the training site for Kent County.  Ann M. Heerde has been certified as a PMTO Specialsit, by the Implementation Sciences International Incorporated.  Ms. Heerde serves as the Regional Coordinator for Southwest Michigan as PMTO is being implemented in various counties.  As well her work involves the training of staff in Kent, Muskegon and Ottawa Counties.
