Jail Mental Health Services
Jail Mental Health Services (JMHS) provides a variety of mental health services to Kent County Correctional Facilities’ (KCCF) inmate population 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These services include:
· Assessment
· Treatment/Therapy
· Diversion
· Case Management
· Psychiatric Medications
· Psychiatric Hospitalization (as appropriate)
JMHS’s mental health professionals are licensed and are available to provide needed services to inmates who have an identified mental health issue. The program is located within the jail setting and provides mental health assessments to all inmates when they are first brought into the KCCF (i.e. booking). Mental Health treatment, (i.e. medication management, individual or group therapy) is provided for all inmates who are appropriate for these services.
In situations where the inmate has had prior mental health issues and has received services in the community, the JMHS staff will coordinate medications and assist as a liaison for the inmate to return to mental health services when she/he is released.
Family, friends, and/or significant others are encourage to use the Jail Mental Health Services Hot-Line (616) 632-6222 for concerns about an inmate. This maybe concerns of the inmates thoughts of suicide or other mental health issues. The Inmate Information (616) 632-6300 is also available to relay concerns, get answers to questions, etc. regarding an inmate’s incarceration.
