Amachi

Amachi is a Nigerian Ibo word that means "who knows but what God has brought us through this child."  Amachi (www.amachimentoring.org) is a faith-community based mentoring program for children with one or both parents incarcerated in a Federal or State Correctional Facility.  Amachi is a collaborative partnership with D.A. Blodgett Big Brothers Big Sisters (www.dablodgett.org ) and Faith Institutions in the communtiy.

Objective:

To passionately respond to the needs of children with one or both parents in prison.

Eligibility:

Children ages 4-18 who have one or both parents incarcerated in a state or fedearal correctional facility.

Funding:

Funding is provided by the Heart of West Michigan United Way and U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services.
